Marco Betteo tried it at the Capoliveri Legend XCO, but the race is Swiss

Capoliveri (LI): This morning, Monday 18 April, the third day on the island of Elba began for all those cross country riders who have decided to run this Easter weekend. On Saturday Esordienti and Pupils had run, Sunday it was the amateurs’ turn and today is the big day, the one with the Internazionali d’Italia Seriesnow in the third of the five scheduled appointments.

The first departure of the Capoliveri Legend XCOthe one scheduled at 10:00 concerned the category Junior male present with 74 boys. In Nalles we saw how many young Italians in this category can play for the best positions in the ranking.

PATH

The Capoliveri route resumes the one introduced last year. A trend with continuous changes in slope with a couple of long climbs and two main descents: that of Ponte di Ferro and Devil’s Tail. The third test offers an even different scenario and a conformation that has nothing to do with San Zeno di Montagna and Nalles.

Artificial sections and a bottom so dry as to be slippery, will leave nothing to chance. HERE you can see the video we shot with Andreas Vittone and Enrico Martello explaining it in detail.

The summary of the race, lap by lap.

LAUNCH ROUND

Interlocutory throwing round, the boys look into each other’s eyes, study the course, have a lot of energy in their legs. Energy that will serve them in the next few laps.

During the penultimate lap Betteo, Bassignaga and Cortesi detached Binz but then the Swiss managed to return, while Ceschin did not manage to keep up with the frenzied pace of the other guys and bounced back. EVERYTHING IS DECIDED IN ONE FLIGHT FOR TWO

In the first two stages of the Internazionali d’Italia Series two foreigners had prevailed, in San Zeno di Montagna Romano Püntener, a boy from Lichtenstein and in Nalles the Frenchman Paul Magnier, today in Capoliveri on the island of Elba three Italians fought against a Swiss.

In the second part of the track Carlo Cortesi, who then finished third, tried to but broke off as did Fabio Bassignaga slowed down by cramps (fourth) and the Capoliveri Legend XCO if they played in the sprint Marco Betteo and Yanick Binz. Unfortunately, even today the foreigner has passed, it is Switzerland that celebrated today. Betteo remained with a bitter taste in his mouth. At the last corner he got there together with the Rossocrociato but he had to settle for second position.

WHAT THE PROTAGONISTS SAID

The winner Yanick Binz: It was very hard because they started pushing right away. I tried to hold on until the last corner and then try to get out in the sprint. During the race I tried to save energy by checking the other athletes to play everything on the last lap by entering as Schurter did at the world championships, right on the last corner. I think it was one of the toughest races I remember, but I really liked the course ».

Marco Betteo (Scott Racing team), the red leader’s jersey of the Internazionali d’Italia Series, second today: «I tried to control the attacks of the opponents and always stay in front. In the second lap I didn’t succeed because the pedal came off and I crashed. Then I came back, in the final I responded to the attacks of Bassignana and Cortesi, then I attacked but it didn’t help. I had a good race but I want even more, I’m not satisfied with second place. “

The Ligurian Carlo Cortesi (KTM Protek Elettrosystem), third: «I got a good start right away and I always tried to stay in front, in order to set my pace and trying to do the race. At the end Betteo and the Swiss started “very dry”, I tried to catch them but there was nothing to do. I have even laundry but in the penultimate lap.

Fabio Bassignaga (Trinx Factory), fourth: «It was a monstrous race with a beautiful but fast course. My strong point is the climb, so I tried on the stretches but today the others had more. On the penultimate lap I started to feel cramps, which is why I broke off. “
